Our story
From pit head to parkland
Where our fairways now run, a colliery once stood. The course at New Delaval was laid out in 1976 on the site of a former pit head and the mining community that surrounded it, and the ground hasn't forgotten.
Fifty years on, the transformation is remarkable. Those young saplings planted on reclaimed colliery land have matured into the tree-lined parkland course that's now regarded as one of the finest in Northumberland.
Our 18th is called Gannin Hyem, and if you know, you know. The 18th hole

120 years in the making
Three homes, one club
From the sand dunes south of the town to the parkland at New Delaval.
- 1905
The club is founded
Blyth Golf Club plays a nine-hole links course among the sand dunes south of the town, until the land is commandeered for defence during the First World War.
- 1916
The Old Course
The club moves inland to a 12-hole course off Plessey Road, known fondly as the Old Course. It remains our home for sixty years.
- 1976
New Delaval opens
A newly built 18-hole course opens at New Delaval, on land reclaimed from the town's mining past.
- 1991
Members take on the course
The club takes over maintenance of the course itself, beginning the era of members shaping their own course.
- 2008
Ours outright
Blyth Golf Club purchases the course and clubhouse outright. Masters of our own destiny, at last.

The club today
A members' club in the truest sense
We're a community-rooted club with a proud volunteer culture. The course you play today has been shaped, season after season, by the people who love it: members who give their time to make Blyth better every year.
That spirit extends to everyone who walks through the door. Whether you're joining as a member, visiting for the day, or teeing it up in one of our Opens, you'll find a warm welcome, a clubhouse that feels like a local, and catering that visitors write back about.
The course
Honest golf, properly kept
Our tree-lined parkland course rewards thought over brute force. Every hole has character; several have history built into their names.
- I
An early test
The opening six holes will test you early.
- II
Water on the back nine
Water comes into play on the back nine.
- III
The westerly
The westerly wind off the coast has ruined more scorecards than any bunker ever will.
Visitors return year after year, an ever-growing number of them, and the reason is simple: a course maintained to a standard that belies its green fee, and a welcome to match.
