Delivering Change at Blyth Golf Club
As part of the Club's long-term strategy, we are exploring opportunities to make better use of under-utilised assets to generate new income, improve facilities and strengthen the Club's financial sustainability.
We are committed to being transparent with members throughout this process. For that reason, the Club is preparing to submit a pre-application proposal, working alongside an experienced development partner, to obtain early feedback from Northumberland County Council before deciding whether to proceed with a formal planning application.
The Club is supportive of the concept. The purpose of the pre-application process is to test the concept, understand any planning considerations and assess whether the proposal is deliverable.
What are we proposing?
The Club has been exploring the potential development of a small business hub on a limited area of non-golfing land within the wider Club estate.
Alongside this, we previously invited expressions of interest regarding the renovation of the former steward's flat into a duplex Airbnb-style accommodation offer. The objective is to bring a redundant Club asset back into productive use and create an additional year-round source of income.
How would it work?
The proposal is designed to be self-funding.
Importantly, delivery of the scheme would include:
Relocation of the existing buggy storage facilities.
Creation of additional parking provision.
Investment in supporting infrastructure required to accommodate the development.
Redevelopment of the former steward's flat into a duplex accommodation offering.
These elements have been factored into the overall concept from the outset and are not being treated as separate future projects.
Why are we doing this?
The objective is straightforward. We want to create sustainable income streams that support the Club's future and reduce reliance on subscriptions alone.
Income generated from commercial activity and visitor accommodation would help strengthen the Club's finances and provide additional resources for investment in the facilities and services that members value.
Looking Ahead
This proposal should be viewed within the wider context of the Club's strategic plan.
It is the first of a number of initiatives currently being considered to improve the long-term sustainability of Blyth Golf Club. Each opportunity will be assessed carefully to ensure it delivers value for members, supports the Club's finances and remains consistent with our overall strategy.
The common theme is clear: making the best use of Club assets, creating new sources of income, and building a stronger, more sustainable future for Blyth Golf Club.
Members will continue to be updated as the pre-application process progresses and more information becomes available.
